Cassiopeia (Cassie) Childress is an aspiring public service and community engagement professional based in Carrboro, NC. She is completing dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Administration at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, expected in May 2027, and holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Alabama. Her work is driven by a commitment to ensuring that the communities most affected by policies and programs have a meaningful voice in shaping them.
Cassie has interned in the Office of the Vice President at the White House, supporting engagement efforts and stakeholder communications, and served as an intern in the Alabama Governor’s Policy Office, researching solutions on affordable housing, healthcare, and opioid recovery to inform state-level decision-making. Prior to her role with MDC< she completed a graduate research assistantship within UNC’s School of Government, supporting qualitative research on the use of facilitation in local governments.
Cassie is dedicated to brdiging community voice and public sustems, translating people’s needs into programs and policies that are responsive, equtiable, and informed by those closest to the issues.
